Stow Fun Raisers Report 2023

Stow Fun Raisers 1st April 2022 – 31st March 2023 The aim of the Stow Fun Raisers is to foster and extend the strong sense of community spirit in Stow by organising fun events, which will appeal to all age groups and backgrounds represented in the village population. Any money raised at these events should benefit the local community primarily, with any surplus going to local charities or individual good causes or such other charitable purposes as the committee should from time to time decide. Litter picking 24th April, 25th September 2022 and 26th March 2023 Clare Ella organised this as usual supported by Anne and her van and the regular volunteers, who turn out plus some newcomers. A significant number of bags of rubbish are still collected each time despite several individuals litter picking regularly while out walking. Jubilee celebrations 4th and 5th June Stow Fun Raisers (along with the Cross Keys) took responsibility for organising the celebrations and on the Saturday held the family bike ride followed by a bbq and cakes. About 45 cyclists joined in (and one horse) and overall we estimated over 80 people attended during the afternoon. We were entertained by Kate and Pete and the Parish Council also organised the planting of the Jubilee tree and the unveiling of the bench. On Sunday some of Stow Fun Raisers helped at the street party in the marquee at the Cross Keys, where we were entertained by Willingham Band. Despite the rain about 50 people attended and had a great time. Over the weekend the church was decorated by a donations of flowers from local residents organised and arranged by Shirley Hanrahan supported by Sheila Garner and other volunteers. Christmas Tree Limestone Farming once again donated a tree. Doug Garner, assisted by John Martinson and Mark Rose, put it up and decorated it. It looked delightful as usual and was much admired. Carols round the tree 22nd December Carolyn Turner and Clare organised this event as usual and it was supported by over 80 people attending including Willingham Band. Hot drinks and mince pies were served, the donations for which were rounded up to £150 by SFR and donated, as usual, to St Barnabas. This year we are once again enjoying the Spring bulbs purchased by SFR over the years and planted by Janet Davies at the crossroads. Looking ahead, Stow Fun Raisers will be leading the celebrations for the Coronation with a family bike ride, bbq and cakes on Sunday 7th May as well as once again arranging a display of flowers in the church.
