ADVICE TO VOLUNTEERS AND RECIPIENTS OF THE SERVICE
On receiving a request, Co-ordinator to ascertain possible/probable payment method and check if recipient is self-isolating as a preventative measure or because they think they have the virus.
Advise volunteer and check their payment preference.
Self isolating as a precautionary measure:
Options are: cash, cheque, bank transfer or IOU.
- For cash: suggest they don’t ‘charge’ the exact amount, but round up to the nearest £5 or £10. They can then take the change with them when they drop of the goods and the recipient doesn’t have to hunt for change, but hands over the £5 or £10. Suggest they phone the recipient from the shop so they are ready when the volunteer arrives at the door.
- For a cheque, suggest the volunteer rings when shop completed so recipient can have cheque available when the volunteer arrives.
- Use ‘click and collect’ or Tesco or Asda virtual top up cards.
- Lincolnshire Co-op is issuing £20 vouchers that can be paid for by phone and will be posted to the household.
- Bank transfer: exchange details prior to shopping and ‘handover’ the receipt so recipient has hard copy of the amount to be transferred
- IOU – recipient to ‘handover’ sign
Self isolating because believed to have coronavirus:
- This requires more stringent procedures
- Allocate only to a volunteer who has gloves and masks
- Recipients are advised to pay by bank transfer or order goods on line or by telephone for ‘click or collect’.
- ASDA and TESCO produce virtual top-up cash cards that the recipient household can email to the shopper.
- If none of there is possible, the only other option is an IOU, but should not be not physically exchanged.
- We are advised that we should not accept cash or cheques because of the risk of contamination.
- Keep gloves on and wash hands with gloves on thoroughly before taking off.
- Wash hands thoroughly after taking off gloves.
Advise the volunteer and recipient to observe safe distancing at all times.
